More than an ice cream shop
Sgt. Pepper’s Ice Cream Parlor is not your typical ice cream shop. Since Gary Ozuna took over the shop in May 2006, this little spot on Lighthouse Avenue has become a colorful mix of ice cream parlor, record shop, Beatles and classic rock memorabilia collection, and neighborhood hangout.
Meet Gary
Gary is a longtime Monterey Peninsula local, music lover, collector, and true Pacific Grove character. His love of the Beatles, classic rock, art, records, and the culture of the 1960s and 1970s can be found throughout the shop.
Over the years, Gary has filled the walls, shelves, and corners with records, posters, vintage memorabilia, books, artwork, games, and plenty of unexpected treasures. Much of what you see reflects his own interests and experiences, which is why Sgt. Pepper’s feels so different from a typical ice cream shop.
Keeping the local spirit alive
Gary has always believed in keeping the shop independent, personal, and a little unconventional. That spirit is still at the heart of Sgt. Pepper’s today.
Come in for a scoop or a cup of coffee, browse the records and memorabilia, play a game, listen to some classic music on vinyl, or simply pull up a chair and stay awhile.
Ice cream, coffee, records, good vibes.
Gary and the ice cream shop have been part of Pacific Grove’s character for decades. This 2009 story highlighted the shop’s unusual mix of ice cream, coffee, Beatles memorabilia, classic rock, vintage records, and Gary’s one-of-a-kind personality.
Years later, Sgt. Pepper’s is still proudly independent, local, and unconventional. The shop continues to bring together ice cream, music, memorabilia, and community in a way that feels unmistakably Pacific Grove.
